Workflow and Document Management

For the past couple of years, we have been seeing a few new trends in our industry that Nick and I would like to talk about. Two areas outside of, but connected to, your traditional ERP system that we have been helping our clients with more and more are workflow and document management. In today’s economy companies are looking even harder for that competitive edge.  Some clients would like to add a little bit more control into their software as a way of tracking and enforcing new policies yet others are looking for new ways to improve on efficiencies.

We have found that one of the easiest places to make efficiency improvements is in purchasing. We are defining purchasing as the range of events that start with creating requisitions and managing the entire approval process and end with inquiry of an old vendor invoice which has already been paid.  Workflow can be implemented throughout this entire process to make sure requisitions, approvals, RFQ’s, and purchase orders are all processed as efficiently and cost effectively as possible.

The other new demand that we are seeing, which does have some overlap with workflow, is document management. Being able to scan a document and send it out for approval electronically is much more cost effective than passing around a hard copy. Document Management not only helps with this workflow, but also saves time while reducing storage costs and space requirements. Both of these topics come up as more and more companies look to “go green.”  What we are finding though is that with these two enhancements to your system, going green can really improve your bottom line.

In the fall, we partnered with an award winning company called V1 Document Management to help provide some of these solutions to our clients.
